The BTC Company has received the prestigious Green Star Certificate for sustainable operations and climate action, awarded by CER – Sustainable Business Network. The certificate is a testament of the company being on the right path to green transformation.
The BTC Company is proud to have once again been awarded the Green Star Certificate, which confirms company’s sustainability efforts as relevant and their support of environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.
The four-star Green Star Certificate confirms the BTC Company as a Green Leader. This means that, as a progressive, future-oriented company, the BTC Company has strongly embedded principles of sustainable business operations into its business models and its management takes responsibility for such sustainable efforts. As a Green Leader, the company is committed to assessing climate risks and seizing opportunities on the path to green transformation, actively contributing to reducing its carbon footprint by setting environmental guidelines, climate and other environmental targets, and also measuring the current conditions in all three ESG areas. The company assesses the impact of climate risk on its business, supply and value chains and it takes appropriate steps on the basis of goals set. The company has experience of implementing sustainable solutions for which they make data-driven decisions. They actively engage with employees and relevant partners in green transformation and sustainable business and strive to adequately communicate progress achieved both internally and to external stakeholders.
In the past year, the BTC Company has taken new significant sustainability steps. Urban greening is an effective measure of addressing the challenge of overheating in cities (urban heat islands) and of improving air quality and providing better living conditions in urban environments. Today, there are as many as 2000 trees in the wider BTC City Ljubljana area. In 2024, the largest ever greening project was carried out, which included the establishment of a larger park with 270 trees of 20 different species on an area of 12,000 m² south of the IKEA store. With the aim of promoting sustainable mobility, together with partner Avant Car, an electric delivery vehicle was made available in BTC City Ljubljana, allowing visitors to rent it to transport larger and heavier products to their homes. A number of activities were also carried out in the field of energy management, including the completion of two solar power plants in BTC City Ljubljana. Sustainable steps are being taken to secure BTC City Ljubljana’s own renewable energy sources, increase energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. The new Logistics Centre Zalog, which the BTC Company took over this year, also features a number of energy-efficient solutions, including a smart LED lighting system and one of the largest green roofs in Slovenia over the office area.
Green Star is a Certificate of Excellence for progress on a company’s path to green transformation, which includes the structured introduction of sustainability (ESG) aspects and climate action into company’s business operations. The basis for the issuing of the Green Star Certificate are the ESG sustainability score and the climate action score. The ESG score assesses the impact of governance, environmental and social factors on the company and the company’s footprint and impact on the environment, society and climate. The Green Star ESG score is based on international frameworks and standards for sustainability reporting and the EU legislation.
