On Sunday, 13 June 2004 BTC is celebrating its 50th anniversary at various venues around BTC City. The whole spectacle is named Betecejada. Five decades have passed since the original warehouses started to grow on the outskirts of Ljubljana and now they have become the biggest business, shopping, sports and entertainment centre in Central Europe – BTC CITY.
The 50th anniversary is marked by a 50-event celebration named Betecejada which started on 16 March, the exact date the company was founded and will last until March 2005, when the Atlantis Water City will be opened. The aim of the celebration is to enable all visitors, young and old, to spend their Sundays in a slightly different way, to socialise and have fun, take part in sports activities and children’s performances, competitions for prizes, concerts and to refresh themselves in various bars.
The events will take place at various venues in BTC City. Aleja mladih will host competitions in basketball, beach volley, football, rollerblading and dancing named ‘Veter v laseh’ accompanied by a DJ and young bands.
At 3 p.m. there will be a Martin Krpan competition in front of the Mercurius congress hall, while from 10 a.m. at the BTC Market there will be a three-point-shot basketball tournament, the Zmajčice cheerleaders, children’s games, mini basketball, fun ground, a rollerblading show, hot air balloon flights and much more. The visitors will be entertained by various musicians, such as the Dixie Šok Band, Mambo Kings, Čuki, Natalija Verboten, Zoran Predin, Vlado Kreslin and Pero Lovšin. There will also be a Miss and Mister of the Streetball contest.
The Domžale brass band, Ljubljana’s majorettes and Valvazorjeva konjenica will be walking down the streets of BTC City. In the afternoon there will be an exhibition of sidecars that are over 50 years old, an acrobatic plane show and balloon flights. To the south of Hall A there will be a children’s playground with an inflatable toboggan, a small train and all family members will be able to try their cycling skills. Prize draws will be taking place all Sunday, with the biggest prize being a car, Mazda 3.
The shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offer discounts to their visitors. Kolosej will turn on its cinema projectors at 10 a.m., giving you a 30% discount on tickets. In addition, the Millenium sports centre will open its doors to you on this occasion with a chance to play tennis, badminton and aerobics free of charge, with advance reservations.
The biggest party in town will be crowned off by a magnificent fireworks display at 10 p.m.
