At the end of the biggest Slovenian conference and fair in the field of logistics “Logistics 09”, taking place on 4 and 5 February at the Faculty of Logistics in Celje, the Logistics Person of the Year 2008 was announced. This recognition went to Janko Pirkovič, director of the BTC Logistics Centre. Apart from him, Damjan Zupančič, Director of Logistics at TVP from Novo mesto, and Aleš Lampret, Director of Logistics at Kemofarmacija, were also nominated.
“I wouldn’t have received the recognition I received today without my outstanding co-workers. To me personally this is validation of our work in the BTC Logistics Centre and confirmation that we are one of the best in this field because we have a good control of logistics processes, in particular in detailed logistics. I am very pleased that our and my hard work has also been recognized in the field we work in,” commented Janko Pirkovič. 230 people are employed in the BTC Logistics Centre, and they ensure the delivery of goods to more than 550 locations across Slovenia (Spar Slovenija, Petrol, etc.) every day.
The conference “Logistics 09” was organized by the European Association for Traffic, Transport and Business Logistics, Faculty of Logistics, and Celje-Krško and GR Inženiring. For the third year in a row, the conference saw the gathering of experts from academic and economic fields, representatives of the government and all people who deal with different logistics processes and work towards successful functioning of the entire logistics sector. The central theme of this year’s conference was distribution centres, and experts discussed topics of logistics centres’ planning, location selection parameters, bases for construction, and different aspects of planning and information support.
The “Logistics Person of the Year” has been previously awarded to Marko Cedilnik, Director of Logistics at Merkator, Tatjana Oražem, Director of Logistics at Merkur, and Lucija Rožič, Director of Logistics at Gorenje.
